🎮 VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER — what are three of your oc's favorite hobbies?

for elias:

cooking. this man loves cooking, he loves baking, he loves things related to it. it's definitely his love language, but he'll also take every opportunity he can to show off his skills

movies. he's a big movie nerd and it's almost impossible to watch anything with him if you're a casual watcher because he will always find something to criticize (the rest of the cast hates him for it)

reading - but mostly comic books and shitty romance novels - he claims to be hate-reading them, but deep down he kinda enjoys it

for finn, his hobbies didn't really change much before and after he disappeared, just the intensity in which he enjoyed them, but:

astronomy. he loves space, he loves the stars. him and mc would lay down in his backyard for hours at night, and he'd be pointing out constellations and the stories behind them and their names

knitting, oddly enough. he likes having things to do with his hands, and before his disappearance, he would do small things, like embroider his clothes, or give his friends and family embroidered gifts, but after he left he picked up knitting as a way to destress, and he's very good at it.

he collects... things. all kinds of things. it goes both for him and riss - they're a bit like magpies, and if they see something shiny on the ground, they will pick it up and take it home. he has an impressive empty alcohol bottle collection - he doesn't drink as much as he used to, but if it has a nice bottle, he will be buying it.

Amethyst: Who is the Comfort Character™ of your wip

I’m not even sure if this counts as a comfort character but—Elias, Elias forever.

Yes, ok, he’s an edgy, vile, wicked little bastard, but he’s my bastard. Elias is the “oldest” of all the OCs I’m still working with and I’ve spent SO much time in his head that writing him is so effortless and calming. He always lets me write the stuff I love to write the most (whump :))) ) and every moment with him makes me feel like I know what I’m doing.

Emerald: Which of your characters is hardest to write?

In terms of voice/dialogue/moment-to-moment writing, it’s Amaryllis.

Her mindset fascinates me and it’s evolved well over the years—unbridled arrogance, power hungry, passionate, blinders FIRMLY on—but still every time I step in her head it can feel like a slog or confusing. She’s just so different.

(also ironically the kind of voice I think suits her is something I’m still relatively weak at so lol)

Jade: Your favorite relationship between two characters

Speaking of Elias & Amaryllis…

These two are so similar in all the ways that make them clash. And with them? Those clashes can be explosive.

Specifically the dynamic the book toys with is that Amaryllis has essentially recruited Elias like he’s a damn summon in a Final Fantasy game—pulling him away from his life & responsibilities to do an errand for her that he doesn’t care about. She refers to him like a sword pulled out of a stone.

He hates it and hates her…but she also becomes the one person in his life willing to risk absolutely everything for him. No one has loved him so passionately or dangerously, and it’s kind of addicting to have that power over someone.

(((also in this draft where i finally made the leap and made the main 3 a polyam triad, i get to toy with this like. intimacy-as-power-struggle nonsense between them, sexual-passion-without-the-sex stuff)))

Elias (Queensmen) would never admit it, but his guilty pleasure is historical smutty romance books with writers’ interpretations of the world before the goddesses came—essentially like reading poorly-researched highlander bodice rippers and writing notes in the margins about the historical inaccuracies.

@yunessa thank you for the prompt! Got to give my boy some Dance of Masks love too. Though there are some references to Elias lore here that only I know because I've never shared...anything about his personal quest here, let alone how it gets resolved lol

12. Candles (Elias/Ulbrig, 434 words)

“Are you sure about this, love? Neither one of us worships her, after all.”

“You don’t worship anyone anymore. And yes, I’m sure. The Temple of Desna has never turned away those in need.”

“I…I wouldn’t say we’re in need, exactly. Give me some credit!”

“Oh? So you want to go back to the square and deal with that scholar after all?”

Ulbrig glared at him as they approached the doors to the repaired Temple of Desna. It was not a serious glare, touched around the edges with affection. Elias didn’t bother to hide his own smile at the sight, deciding to take that as an answer. Lacing their fingers together, Elias pulled him along and inside before either of them could think better of it.

Neither worshiped the Song of Spheres, but Elias had sought refuge in this temple many times over the years. He’d never known its congregation to turn away those in need of sanctuary or succor. Even if the cause of their current need was a great deal less serious than usual.

Inside, they found rows of pews strung with garlands, candles flickering merrily on every available surface, and a soft, enchanting lullaby played on the strings of a harp in the corner. Prelate Ramien and his flock were nowhere to be seen, no doubt celebrating in the square with the rest of Kenabres, but there were a few others who’d sought shelter from the colorful chaos of the festival.

Ulbrig hummed for a moment, shifting on his feet and casting an uneasy look at the butterfly carved into the altar. “Are you sure the moon witch won’t mind that I’m here?”

“Why would she? Have you or Aervahr done something to anger her?”

“Of course not! But you know how fickle these deities can be. You never…” Ulbrig trailed off as he got a good look at Elias’ smile, “Oh, you’re messing with me! You’ve spent too much time around the warchief. I think I liked it better when I wasn’t sure if you were more oglin or man.” Even as he said this, Ulbrig’s arm snaked around his back, pulling him closer.

“Hm, did you now? Perhaps I should go find that professor, what was his name? Dagul?” Elias had a brief moment to savor the flash of panic in his lover’s eyes before he was roughly pulled against his body. Then he found himself savoring a whole different sensation.

“Like hell you will,” Ulbrig muttered, then kissed him in a way that might have truly upset Desna if she were of a mind to care.
